Shockwave Therapy

A safe and effective treatment for chronic pain and musculoskeletal injuries.

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy is a multidisciplinary device used in podiatry, osteopathy and sports therapy. Shockwave is an acoustic wave which carries high energy to painful tissues and can help to relieve pain quickly and restore mobility. The energy promotes pain relief, regeneration and repair of the bones, tendons and other soft tissues. It is an ideal therapy to speed up recovery and cure various conditions that are causing acute or chronic pain.

How Does Shockwave Therapy Work?

Acoustic waves with high energy peak used in Shockwave therapy interact with tissues causing

  • New blood vessel formation
  • Reversal of chronic inflammation
  • Stimulation of collagen production
  • Dissolution of calcified fibroblasts
  • Dispersion of pain mediator “substance P”
  • Release of trigger points

Overall this accelerates tissue repair and cell growth providing analgesia and mobility restoration.

Why Use Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave therapy can be a hugely beneficial treatment for a variety of musculoskeletal injuries. Clinical evidence supports its effectiveness and results and it’s recommended in the NICE guidelines used by the NHS.

When you have been struggling for weeks or months with a chronic, painful problem, your body may be restricted or unable to encourage a healing response. Shockwave therapy can rapidly encourage the healing of these chronic injuries.

Laser Therapy

We offer Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) as part of our Podiatry and MSK therapy services. This is a non-invasive, drug-free way of optimising the body’s natural healing processes. It’s a highly useful tool when it comes to managing sprains, tears, strains and tendinopathies. Laser Therapy is also an effective way to treat sports injuries, including managing ongoing problems and helping the healing when an athlete is pushing themselves to the limit.

LLLT can optimise soft tissue healing, enabling faster and stronger repairs of strains and sprains, while also positively benefiting muscles, ligaments, and tendons. Long-term issues caused by overuse such as Achilles tendinopathy and rotator cuff pathologies also benefit from Laser Therapy, which reduces inflammation & pain.
